This soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant is known for its distinctive sign, with characters styled after Yaji and Kita, the main characters of the classic comic novel “Tokaidochu Hizakurige” (Footing It Along The Tokaido Road). Dough for the soba is kneaded by foot, so the noodles have a strong body and go down smooth. Their most popular dish is ten-oroshi, which has shrimp, squash, and other tempura (battered and deep fried meat and vegetables) served with a side of grated daikon (giant radish), which gives a refreshing flavor. Home grown rice harvested near the restaurant is used for rice bowl dishes, such as oyakodon (chicken and scrambled egg). They are proud of their rice, which is steamed carefully while adjusting its temperature.
