Anrakuji Temple

Anrakuji Temple is a branch temple of the Tendai School, Hieisan Sect of Buddhism, making it the only Buddhist temple of the Tendai School in Fujieda City. According to the temple’s own records, it was founded in the Nara Period (710 – 794), when the famous Buddhist priest Gyoki (668 – 749) visited this area during his pilgrimage to eastern regions of Japan in the 5th year of the Jinki era (728).
It is said that “Gong of Anrakuji Temple” was created by the carpenter Mataro in the 7th year of the Tenbun era (1538). Furthermore, the applicant Oshiro Sukejiro dedicated the gong to the Emperor of Japan, so it was made a prefecture designated tangible cultural property.
